What is the job?
The Crisis Response Worker assists individuals experiencing a mental health crisis to resume community functioning. Specific responsibilities include information and referral assistance, crisis assessment, interventions and supports, brief crisis counselling and on-site crisis intervention, emergency referrals, and follow-ups. The work of the Crisis Response worker is guided in practice to apply the principles of “Recovery” and Psychiatric Rehabilitation Approach Technology
What will you do day to day?
1. Adherence to all policies of Canadian Mental Health Association.
2. Assisting individuals experiencing mental health crisis to resume community functioning.
3. Provide telephone crisis assessment, brief telephone counseling, referrals and follow-up for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.
4. Respond and provide on-site crisis assessments, intervention and support to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.
5. Coordinate admission to the Crisis Safe Bed and to assist clients in accessing mental health specialists and/or local hospitals, as indicated.
6. Provide Crisis support and to assist clients enrolled in the Crisis Safe Bed and develop Wellness Plans. Attend community appointments, and community referrals, as required.
7. Determine the need for on-site crisis supports by the Mobile Response Team.
8. Being part of a team assisting individuals to access mental health specialists and/or hospitals and to coordinate referrals, linkages, and follow-up to appropriate community support services.
9. Maintain up-to-date client information and records in agency client records systems.
10. Attend and contribute to Crisis Response Services Team meetings and other client-related meetings as required.
11. Liaise with families and friends, mental health specialists, police, emergency service personnel, and Schedule 1 facilities to assist individuals requiring acute care admission under the Mental Health Act.
12. Performs any other tasks related to the position as required
What do you bring to the job?
· Applicants should demonstrate a good knowledge of community mental health and other social service resources and possess skills and experience in crisis assessment, intervention strategies, and crisis counselling/support
· Applicants should demonstrate a willingness to learn and actively participate in an extensive training program provided in the Crisis Response program
· A post-secondary degree or diploma in the health or human services field, along with one year of mental health experience
· The incumbent shall also have excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
· Demonstrated understanding of personal space and the ability to role model healthy boundaries
· Ability to manage conflict and crisis situations
· Knowledge and understanding of harm reduction and recovery approaches to service delivery
· Ability to communicate professionally with community agencies
· Cultural competence for diverse populations
· Personal qualities of empathy, understanding and patience
· Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
· Able to provide verification of full vaccination against Covid-19
· Successful completion of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) is required
· Ability to speak French is considered an asset
· ASIST certification considered an asset
· You must be available for shift work
· Possess a valid Class “G” driver’s license

IMPACT WORKER (Integrated Mobile Police and Crisis Team) Crisis Response Services. Casual Position, Rotating schedules – 1 Vacancy Rate: $30.72 – $32.64/hour

What is the job?
The IMPACT Worker works alongside with a team member from the Thunder Bay Police to respond to individuals in a mental health crisis and will be situated at the local police station when so scheduled. The IMPACT Worker completes a comprehensive mental health assessment and connects individuals to the appropriate mental health services. The IMPACT Worker also provides follow-up to individuals within 24 hours of the initial crisis intervention. The IMPACT worker will also be scheduled for in office work as required and appropriate, such as administrative/office functions, telephone or regular mobile response.
What will you do day to day?
- Provide crisis intervention and support services to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.
- Work in collaboration with Thunder Bay Police officers by providing guidance and expertise in determining apprehension criteria and or resolution strategies through de-escalation techniques.
- Provide service information and link individuals, families and friends to community mental health agencies and social service resources.
- Provide telephone crisis assessment, brief telephone counselling, referrals and follow-up for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis on occasion/when assigned.
- Determine need for admission to Crisis Safe beds.
- Liaise with families and friends, mental health specialists, police, emergency service personnel, and Schedule 1 facilities to assist individuals requiring acute care admission under the Mental Health Act.
- Coordinate referrals, linkages, and follow-up to appropriate community support services.
- Maintain up-to-date client information and records in agency client records systems.
- Ensure all required documentation is completed in a timely fashion
- Communicate service and client information in accordance with established procedures.
- Maintain effective working relationships with community agencies, clients, family members, and other mental health specialists as appropriate.
- Attend and contribute to Crisis Response Service Team meetings and other client-related meetings as required.
- Ensure safe work methods and practices at all times.
- Represents the Canadian Mental Health Association, Thunder Bay Branch, in a professional manner and adheres to standards consistent with the values and philosophy of the Association.

What do you bring to the job?
- A post-secondary diploma or degree in the Health and Human Services
- Strong background working with individuals with mental illness & addictions
- Good knowledge of community health and other health related social service resources
- Must possess advanced skills in crisis assessments, documentation and intervention strategies and/or possess ASIST
- Experience and knowledge of the criminal justice system is an asset
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Good problem solving, teamwork and counseling skills
- Computer and data entry skills (EMHware, OCAN)
- Physically capable to perform job requirements Legally eligible to work in Canada
- Valid Class “G” Driver’s License

What is the job?
The Administrative Assistant is part of the Branch Administrative team. The Administrative Assistant is responsible to support the day-to-day operations of the administrative and/or program team(s), including inventory sourcing, responding to inquiries from internal and external parties, collecting and updating confidential material and assisting the senior leadership team as needed.
What will you do day to day?
- Receiving visitors, answering phones, and providing information for persons requesting assistance or referrals to appropriate programs
- Coordinating agency vehicle repairs and maintenance
- Opening, recording and distributing mail while maintaining confidentiality
- Arranging courier services
- Matching invoices with Purchase Orders
- Supporting the Leadership team for reports, spreadsheets, presentations, arranging and organizing material for meetings, etc
- Prepares meeting packages for the Leadership and Management Team meetings in collaboration with the Chair
- Prepares minutes for meetings and manages all action items to ensure that commitments are met
- Coordinates a variety of meetings, events, and gatherings which may include the use of video conference, teleconferencing, OTN or other technology requirements
- Establishing, maintaining and updating filing systems, databases, and records
- Responsible for arranging services needed to respond to requests made through equipment repairs notification
- Arranging travel arrangements as directed
- Taking and receipting of payments
- Ordering supplies, printing, maintenance and other services as requested
- Issuing charitable receipts
- Serving as registrar and arranging events such as training, agency presentations, etc
- Controlling of inventory, notifying when stock is low
- Maintaining the kitchen area
- Assist with coverage in other site locations
- Other duties as requested
What do you bring to the job?
- A post-secondary diploma in Office Administration/Business or a related program, along with emphasis on computer application programs
- A minimum of one year office environment experience
- An acceptable combination of education, training and experience related to the position
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to undertake required French language training, to meet the requirements as a French language designated position
- Detailed oriented
- Adaptable to meet changing deadlines and work well under pressure
- Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
- Strong communication and listening skills, oral and written skills
- Understanding of research methods
- Ability to work independently or within a team
- Physical demands: ability to hear and talk, stand, walk, and sit and ability to lift up to 30 pounds
- Must possess a valid Class “G” driver’s license
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record and Judicial Metter Check (CRJMC) is required
